NATALIE HARTLEY: MY CITY, MY STYLE
My City, My Style showcases how our collections are worn by women we love, worldwide. We invited influential style blogger Natalie Hartley to style her favourite pieces from our SS14 New Reality collection: the building blocks of your new season’s wardrobe.
A graduate of Central St Martins and formerly at ELLE and InStyle, Natalie publishes her hugely popular blog ‘Natalie Hartley Wears’ which follows on from her weekly column in the Sunday Times Style magazine. She has worked with an impressive list of celebrities including Rita Ora, Zoe Saldana, Anna Friel, Olivia Palermo, Diane Kruger and many more.
We met up with Natalie around her neighbourhood of Primrose Hill, London, to find out more about her individual style and her favourite places to visit in the city. See how she styled our cool fashion tailoring, sports luxe separates and this season’s denim.
Q: Why do you love London?
A: London is my home; I am born and bred here and I think that if you are bored of London you are bored of life! There is so much on offer here and loads to do at no cost, and I especially love our pub and park culture that I feel is unique to the capital.
Q: How would you sum up London’s fashion style?
A: I think London has an individual style. We are not scared to be adventurous and tend to do our own thing with everyone showcasing a unique sense of style. I think we are not afraid to be ourselves here and we mix it up with charity, vintage, designer and most importantly the high street, which I feel is the strongest world over.
Q: Where are your favourite places to…
Drink? Shoreditch House.
People watch? Primrose Hill.
Q: Where is your secret place?
A: It’s not so secret now, but Dukes Hotel Martini bar.
Q: What is your favourite way to spend a Saturday afternoon?
A: Hanging around Primrose Hill and wandering through Regents Park for a browse along Marylebone High street – on a nice day of course! When it rains I would make a yummy home cooked lunch and chill at my place with a good friend or family member and a good bottle of wine!
Q: What are you reading at the moment?
A: The GoldFinch by Donna Tartt. It’s very long but very good; you feel like you are a part of the book as it’s so in depth and detailed.
Q: What music are you currently listening to?
Q: Which movies would you like to see this year?
A: 12 years a slave, Wolf of Wall Street and August: Osage County.
Q: How would you describe your personal style?
A: Laid back, always comfortable and with a masculine, but undone, twist.
Q: Who is your style icon?
A: My grandma; she always looked amazing. Slightly boyish in a stylish, European way. She had a great use of colour too and never over accessorised. Her clothes were timeless and even though she had them for years they always looked modern.
Q: What is your favourite fashion magazine?
A: Gentlewoman. It’s a magazine for my age group that I can relate too. The people that they portray are all extremely admirable women who have all achieved amazing things, so it’s a very inspirational read. It’s a magazine that makes you think too.
Q: What are some of your favourite fashion pieces for SS14?
A: I love that denim is having a moment, especially the boyfriend jean. It is paving the way for it to become acceptable to wear them at all times, dark indigo denim for work and classic blue for play.
Q: What is your next ‘must-have’ piece?
A: Another pair of cool flats and any more denim to add to my wardrobe.
Q: What do you wear when you’re not blogging?
A: I spend my time in tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie!
Q: Where are the new cool places to…
Drink? Steam & Rye.
Eat? Gymkhana, an amazing Indian restaurant.
And party? My flat, a friend’s house or Shoreditch House.
